Arsenal’s midfield dilemma: Thuram, Zubimendi, or Luiz?

According to Fabrizio Romano, as highlighted on Caught Offside, Arsenal may not be keen on Nice midfielder Khepren Thuram, but instead they are keen to land either Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz or Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

It’s no secret that Arsenal want to strengthen their engine room this summer. Thomas Partey, Mohammed Elneny, and Jorginho (whose Arsenal future is uncertain) may leave at the end of the season. These anticipated exits, plus the reality that Granit Xhaka was never adequately replaced, has the Gunners looking for another marquee midfield signing.

In recent days, reports have suggested that Nice midfielder Khepren Thuram is on Arsenal’s radar. According to Tuttomercatoweb, Arsenal are thought to be considering making a move for the Frenchman. They said that Arsenal might compete with Juventus for Thuram, although Manchester United is also interested in the player.

While some Gooners were quick to watch compilation videos of the £34 million-rated midfielder (according to Transfermarkt), Fabrizio Romano has advised them to temper their expectations about the move to sign him. Instead, the European transfer guru says Arsenal fans should expect a move for either Martin Zubimendi or Douglas Luiz instead.

Thuram to Arsenal?

“We’ve heard a lot about Arsenal wanting to sign a new midfielder in the summer, and one of the latest names being linked with them is Khephren Thuram of Nice,” Romano said.

“My understanding is that it’s not something concrete so far; Arsenal have made no decision yet. I can still mention Martin Zubimendi and Douglas Luiz as names on their list, but we’ll have to wait and see who they decide to go for.

“There is currently no news also on Thuram as it will also depend on how much Nice will ask for him; his price tag has not been decided yet.”

The fact that Arsenal may recruit Zubimendi or Luiz should be good news to all Gooners; these two, with their experience, would undoubtedly lead Arsenal to the next level.

Khepren Thuram is getting better by the day, but it is unclear whether he would improve Arsenal substantially. A move for the Frenchman would be more of a gamble compared to Zubimendi or Luiz.
