Arsenal have suffered a huge blow in pursuit of Napoli star Victor Osimhen as Chelsea are the ‘favourites’ to sign the African in the upcoming summer window, as per the journalist Paul Brown.

The Gunners seemingly wanted to bolster the frontline by signing a new prolific goal-scorer in the recently concluded winter window. However, they couldn’t manage to do that as their transfer budget was reportedly restricted due to FFP regulations.

Now, it looks like after failing to bolster their frontline in January, the North London club will look to sign a new striker in the upcoming summer window.

A few names have been mentioned as potential targets for Arsenal with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen being suggested as the primary options.

However, speaking on GIVEMESPORT, Brown has reported that Chelsea think they are the favourite to win the race to sign Osimhen next summer. So, if the Blues sign the Nigerian then it would be a huge blow for Arsenal.

Arsenal suffer blow to sign Osimhen

Brown said:

“There’s no chance they[Chelsea] get someone like Osimhen this late in the window and they’re still in for him. They regard themselves as favourites if he is to leave in the summer. I think they’re willing to wait and try hard for that one.”

It has been suggested that Osimhen has decided to leave Napoli at the end of this season and his preference is to move to the Premier League. The striker reportedly has a £113m release clause included in his current contract so Arsenal or Chelsea will have to break the bank to acquire the Napoli star’s service.

Osimhen is deemed one of the best strikers in the world so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him. Therefore, should they miss out on signing him to Chelsea then it will be a big blow for Mikel Arteta’s side.

It has recently been reported that Arsenal’s other key striker target, Toney, could be heading to Tottenham Hotspur if he leaves Brentford next summer. So, it will be a disaster for Arsenal if they can’t manage to broker a deal for any of their primary targets.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see who Arsenal eventually opt to sign to reinforce their frontline next summer.
