Arsenal on high alert as Wilson could leave before tomorrow

By on January 31, 2024

Arsenal are currently on high alert as Newcastle United could be open to selling Callum Wilson before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners have reportedly been exploring the possibility of strengthening their frontline by signing a new striker as Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah haven’t been able to showcase their best so far this term.

Several names have been mentioned as potential targets for the North London club with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen emerging as the primary options. However, neither of them are reportedly available in this winter window.

It has recently been reported that Newcastle could be forced to cash-in on Wilson to balance their books to stay on the right side of Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

It has also been suggested that the Magpies could accept a fee of around £18m to sell the forward and Arsenal could opt to make a swoop for him to bolster their frontline as the Englishman would be an affordable signing.

Wilson to Arsenal

However, Eddie Howe recently made it clear that he doesn’t want to lose any of his players before the deadline. So, it was thought that Wilson may not leave in this winter window.

But, speaking on GIVEMESPORT, Romano has now reported that although Newcastle have been saying publicly that they are not going to sell Wilson, they could cash-in on him if they receive an ‘important proposal’ before tomorrow’s deadline.

The journalist further claims that Wilson could be open to taking a new challenge in his career if Newcastle decide to let him leave. So, Arsenal can manage to secure the Englishman’s signature if they formalise their interest.

When asked whether Wilson could leave Newcastle before the deadline, Romano said:

“Yes, I think that will be the case. It could be one to watch. Newcastle insist that the player is going nowhere, which is the same position they had on Kieran Trippier. So, it’s not easy, but if they receive an important proposal because of Financial Fair Play, that could be a different situation. Wilson could be open to the move.”

Wilson is a Premier League proven striker so he could manage to help the Gunners mount a title charge in the second half of this campaign if the forward moves to the Emirates Stadium before tomorrow. However, he has already entered his 30s so he wouldn’t be a long-term option for Arsenal to reinforce the frontline.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Wilson before the end of this winter window.
