£15m Brazilian playmaker picks Arsenal as a preferred destination
Raphael Veiga, a Brazilian attacking midfielder, has told Spanish newspaper AS that Arsenal are one of the clubs he would like to join as he seeks a move to Europe.
It’s no secret that this winter, Mikel Arteta wanted to strengthen his squad. Aside from signing a lethal striker, he was looking to improve his engine room. A number of top midfielders have been linked with a move to the Emirates with Veiga among the reported targets.
The South American has now talked up the opportunity of joining Arsenal after naming the Gunners as one of his preferred destinations as he looks to seal a move to Europe.
Who is Veiga?
So, who is Raphael Veiga? He is a 28-year-old left-footed Brazilian attacking midfielder (who can also play false 9) who plays for Palmeiras and has represented Brazil at international level.
The Brazilian, who’s at his peak, has been linked with a move away from Palmeiras, and some believe it is time for him to head to Europe and demonstrate his abilities after “dominating” the Brazilian Serie A.
In 45 league games in the whole of 2023, he scored 12 goals and assisted 12 times; this year, he has four goals in three games. His profile and numbers suggest that he is a player that top European teams should consider recruiting.
Fortunately, the player himself has already declared a desire to move to Europe. In fact, he has already mentioned the clubs to whom he will say yes if they come knocking.
So, what did Veiga say about his future?
Speaking with AS, Veiga expressed his ambition to move to Europe, mentioning Arsenal as one of the clubs he hopes to join to quench his dream of playing in Europe.
“I have the desire to play in Europe, but I’m also very happy to play for Palmeiras. I like a lot of teams in Europe. Barcelona, Madrid, City, Arsenal, and others like Manchester United… It’s difficult to say just one. There are impressive teams, and they all have something special and interesting.”
If Arsenal were to buy a midfielder who would undoubtedly impact their attack, that would be Veiga. Interestingly, Transfermarket values him at £15 million. This may be an enticing transfer gamble. That being said, let’s wait and see if the Gunners respond to the Brazilian’s transfer request within the next few hours.
