Bayern Munich are reportedly ‘afraid’ as Arsenal could manage to sign their primary target Martin Zubimendi, as per the German football expert Christian Falk.

The Gunners have reportedly been looking to sign a new midfielder as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has found it difficult to stay fit in recent years.

Numerous names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Douglas Luiz and Amadou Onana being mentioned as the primary options. But, Zubimendi is reportedly on their radar as well.

However, speaking to Caught Offside, Falk has reported that Bayern Munich have also been in the market to sign a new midfielder and have identified Zubimendi as the ‘No. 1 target’.

But, the journalist claims that Arsenal are also interested in signing the Spaniard and Mikel Arteta has been in talks with the player to persuade him to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Zubimendi to Arsenal

Falk also states that Arteta and Zubimendi are both Spanish so Arsenal have a ‘big advantage’ over Bayern Munich to sign him. So, the Bavarian club are currently ‘afraid’ of missing out on purchasing their priority target.

The journalist further says that Zubimendi has a £51m release clause included in his current contract so Arsenal will have to spend a big fee to sign the Real Sociedad star.

Falk said:

“Martin Zubimendi is the No.1 target for Bayern in front of Joao Palhinha. He has a release clause of €60m, which is why he’s so interesting. Bayern Munich are pushing for him and it’s also interesting that Xabi Alonso is with the same agency. Bayern executives are watching him closely as a potential coach for the Bavarian outfit.

“Bayern also heard that Mikel Arteta is already talking to the player. They’re both Spanish as well, which is a big advantage for Arsenal! Bayern were very sure that they would lead the race for Zubimendi but now that Arsenal are there, they’re afraid of the Gunners and afraid that Mikel Arteta could take this player away, which had been a planned move for the summer.”

Zubimendi is a highly talented player and has already showcased glimpses of his qualities in La Liga in recent times. So, the midfielder would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to secure Zubimendi’s signature by beating Bayern Munich in this race.
