Kylian Mbappe could be interested in joining Arsenal
Kylian Mbappe could be interested in joining Arsenal if he leaves Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent at the end of this season, as per The Telegraph journalist Sam Dean.
Speculations surrounding the forward’s future have been hanging in the air over the last few months after his decision not to extend his current contract with the Ligue 1 giants despite entering the final year of it.
It has been suggested that Real Madrid are the leading candidate to sign the world-class talent at the end of this season should he eventually leaves Paris Saint-Germain for free.
However, speaking on The Arsenal Beat Podcast, Dean has reported that if Mbappe doesn’t join Los Blancos and decides to explore other options around Europe then Arsenal would appeal to him very much as the Gunners are currently on an upward trajectory under Mikel Arteta’s guidance and the Thierry Henry link could entice the forward to move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, the journalist points out that Mbappe’s wage would be enormous and he is likely to demand a huge signing fee from Arsenal to join them as a free agent. So, it doesn’t look likely that Arteta’s side will spend that much to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
Mbappe to Arsenal
Dean said:
“Shall we do it, shall we address the Mbappe issue? I think everyone knows that isn’t going to happen due to the wages he would demand and the structure Arsenal have in place. Yes, there’s no transfer fee, but I imagine the signing fee would be substantial to sign Mbappe as a free agent.”
“But let’s suspend the financial reality for a moment. One thing I would say about the Mbappe situation is that if he’s looking around Europe for clubs he could go to, there aren’t many, and I think Arsenal would be very much on the list of appealing ones.
“A young, up-and-coming squad, in Europe, there’s the Thierry Henry factor, there’s a lot there in Arsenal’s favour. That pull is enormous right now, but I think the wages alone would be mind-boggling, so I can’t see that one happening, but the idea of Mbappe looking around Europe and seeing Arsenal as an intriguing one is an intriguing point to make.”
Mbappe has enjoyed yet another productive campaign so far this season, scoring 21 goals and registering two assists in 22 appearances in all competitions. Mbappe is one of the best players in the world so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Mbappe if he leaves Paris Saint-Germain for free at the end of this campaign.
