Pundit urges Arsenal to sign Douglas Luiz in January

Former Arsenal star turned pundit Kieran Gibbs has urged the Gunners to sign Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz in this winter window.

The Gunners have enjoyed a promising season so far this term but after accumulating only one point in the last three league games, Mikel Arteta’s side have lost ground in the title race.

The North London club had an opportunity to end the 2023 at the top of the Premier League table but after losing to Fulham on New Year’s Eve, they have now found themselves fourth in the table.

So, Arsenal now need to bounce back quickly to continue their title charge. It has been suggested that the North London club have been exploring the possibility of strengthening their squad in January to hand Arteta enough resources to challenge on all fronts this season.

Arteta seemingly wants to bolster a few areas of the squad with midfield being one of those. Andre Trindade, Joao Palhinha and Arthur Vermeeren have all been mentioned as potential targets for Arsenal with Luiz being suggested as the primary target.

However, it has been reported that Aston Villa – who are also in the title race this season – are desperate to keep hold of their star man and would only change their stance if they receive a huge offer from his potential suitors such as Arsenal. But, Arsenal reportedly can’t afford to spend big in the winter window having splashed over £200m in the last transfer window.

Now, speaking on ESPN, Gibbs has said that Arsenal should sign Luiz in January to reinforce their engine room. The pundit further states that the Gunners may not have the financial resources to pull off this deal at the moment, but they should improvise by including someone like Emile Smith Rowe in a part-exchange deal to lower Aston Villa’s asking price.

Gibbs said:

“It’s probably the best idea to go and get someone like Douglas Luiz. They haven’t got the money! Yeah, but you can swap players, you can swap players, there are deals to be done there for sure, there’s Emile Smith Rowe, there’s Eddie, there’s deals to be done there in this window if I was to do anything I’d probably shore up the midfield and hope that in the second half of the season Saka, Martinelli and Odegaard come alive.”

Villa previously expressed their interest in signing Smith Rowe so they could be interested in signing him if Arsenal submit an offer including him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to present a swap deal proposal to Aston Villa to sign Luiz in this transfer window.

This so called pundit is a complete nut job but at least it’s the best laugh that I’ve had for some time.
An utter load of garbage and BL print it.
