Arsenal plotting audacious swoop to sign Bernardo Silva
Arsenal are reportedly plotting an audacious swoop to sign Manchester City star Bernardo Silva in the upcoming transfer window, as per Football London.
The North London club have enjoyed a stellar campaign this season and have been showing signs that they could challenge on all fronts.
So, it seems Arsenal have been exploring the possibility of strengthening their squad next month to help Mikel Arteta achieve their lofty ambitions this campaign.
It has been suggested that the Gunners have prioritised strengthening their frontline in January, but purchasing a new deep-lying playmaker is also on Arteta’s wishlist.
However, according to the report by Football London, Arsenal could look to bolster their flanks as well and have started to explore the possibility of acquiring Silva’s signature.
The report further claims that the Man City star has a £50m release clause included in his current contract and Arsenal could look to trigger the buyout clause to purchase the Portugal international.
Silva to Arsenal
However, Football London states that Silva could be looking to stay at the Etihad Stadium so Arsenal may find it difficult to persuade the versatile midfielder to join the club.
After joining Man City, Silva has established himself as one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League over the last few years, helping his side win every possible competition in the world.
Silva is a versatile player as he can play in the right-wing position and is also comfortable playing anywhere across the middle of the park. So, with Arsenal looking to sign a new player to support Bukayo Saka, the Man City star would be an excellent option.
In addition, given he can play in engine room, a midfield trio of Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Silva would be a mouth-watering prospect for the North Londoners if they purchase him in January.
So, the Portugal international would be a great coup for Arsenal should they manage to lure him away from the Etihad Stadium in the upcoming window. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to formalise their interest in securing Silva’s signature next year.
