Champions League draw: Arsenal get favourable last-16 draw

By on December 18, 2023

Arsenal have been drawn to face Porto in the last-16 of the Champions League following today’s draw in Switzerland.

After booking our return to Europe’s elite competition for the first time in six years, Arsenal were handed a decent draw having been pitted against Sevilla, PSV Eindhoven and Lens in Group B.

We finished top on 13 points after winning four, drawing one and losing one of our six group games, with PSV edging out Lens for second place.

That meant Arsenal were in the top group for today’s draw and could have been drawn to face runners-up PSG, Inter Milan, Napoli, Lazio, RB Leipzig, Porto or Copenhagen.

Porto were first out the hat and were drawn to face Arsenal. It’s certainly a kind draw for us as we avoid the big guns like PSG, Napoli and Inter Milan, but we shouldn’t underestimate the threat that Porto will bring.

The Portuguese giants will be strong at home but Mikel Arteta should be confident of beating them over two legs to reach the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Elsewhere, Manchester City got the easiest draw after being pitted against Copenhagen. Real Madrid will take on RB Leipzig, Napoli face Barcelona, PSG got Real Sociedad, Inter will play Atletico Madrid, PSV got Dortmund and Lazio will take on Bayern Munich.

The first leg at the Estádio do Dragão will be played on either 13th-14th or 20th-21st February, with the return fixture at the Emirates Stadium on either 5th-6th or 12th-13th March, 2024.
