Arsenal need to make big sell to sign Toney in January
Arsenal reportedly need to make a big sale to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney in the upcoming January window, as per the Mirror.
Having splashed over £200m during the early stages of the summer window, it was suggested that the Gunners couldn’t spend big to sign anyone before the deadline.
So, they were forced to acquire David Raya’s service on a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent next summer. Now, it seems the financial situation remains the same for the North London club for the January window.
According to the report by the Mirror, Arsenal are keen on bolstering their frontline in winter and they have identified Toney as the number one target.
The report further claims that Brentford are ready to cash-in on their star man and are asking a fee of around £60m. But, the Mirror states that Mikel Arteta’s side can’t afford to spend that much money at the moment so they need to be creative and will have to make a big sale to raise funds for this move.
Toney to Arsenal
Toney has been suspended for eight months after being found guilty of breaching the betting rules and his ban will be over in January next year. In the meantime, the forward has returned to training to regain his full fitness before coming back.
The forward has showcased his goal-scoring prowess during his time at the Gtech Community Stadium over the last few years. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal to reinforce their frontline if they secure his signature in the upcoming window.
Although the North London club have managed to score goals at a decent rate this season, their striker options, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have struggled to find the back of the net, scoring only five goals combined in all competitions.
So, purchasing a new prolific striker would be the right decision and that should help Arteta challenge on all fronts this season. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can eventually manage to secure Toney’s signature in January to bolster the attack.
