Arsenal planning to make swap deal to sign Toney in January

By on September 27, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly planning to include a player in a part-exchange deal to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney in January, as per 90min.

It has recently been reported that despite having Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in the squad, Mikel Arteta is keen on signing a new prolific striker to strengthen the frontline.

Several names have been mentioned as potential targets with Dusan Vlahovic and Victor Osimhen being among them, but Toney is reportedly high on Arteta’s wish-list.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has made it clear that they are open to cashing-in on the striker if they receive a big proposal and it has been reported that the Bees want a fee of around £60m.

However, according to the report by 90min, although it has widely been suggested that Brentford want £60m, they could ask for a fee of around £75m to let their star man leave.

The report further claims that Arsenal are planning to make a swap deal to reduce the money up-front and it remains to be seen whether Frank’s side accept that proposal.

Toney to Arsenal

Arteta could include Nketiah in a part-exchange deal to sign Toney due to the fact that the Gunners may look to offload one of their striker options if they decide to sign the Brentford star in winter.

However, 90min states that Chelsea are also keen on purchasing Toney to address their goal-scoring issues so Arsenal are set to face fierce competition from the Blues in getting any potential deal done for the Englishman.

It has recently been reported that the North London club are preparing to step up their efforts to sign Toney in January. So, it remains to be seen whether the Gunners can eventually manage to secure a deal for the striker.

Toney was last season’s third-highest scorer in the Premier League after Erling Braut Haaland and Harry Kane. So, the 27-year-old would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they secure his signature.

The striker is currently serving an eight-month suspension due to breaching the FFP regulations and his suspension will be over in January next year.

So, should Arsenal eventually opt to sign him in winter then it is going to be interesting to see whether he will be able to showcase his best for Arteta’s side right away having been out of action for such a long time.
