Real Madrid transfer round-up: Interesting few days ahead at Spanish giants

By on August 20, 2023

Real Madrid have made a strong start to the season, winning their opening two games in the La Liga. They have beaten the likes of Athletic Bilbao and Almeria comfortably, with summer signing Jude Bellingham making a strong impact already.

Madrid won the trophies last season, but they won’t be very satisfied with that. They lost the league title to Barcelona and were eliminated by Manchester City in the quarter-final stages.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are going through a rebuild this summer. The final few days of the transfer window could throw some big surprises.

Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe and it remains to be seen if they can manage to pull off a deal. It would be a major coup for the Spanish giants and demand for Real Madrid tickets would go through the roof if they could sign the French superstar.

They are also linked with players like Aymeric Laporte, and Gabriel in recent weeks. Liverpool are also casting their glance on Madrid’s highly talented midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

Madrid’s summer transfer window:

At the end of the season, Madrid bid farewell to their club legend Karim Benzema who joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.

Benzema was a great servant for the club and he was outstanding in the past few years. He won the Ballon d’Or during his time at Madrid and won as many as five Champions League titles.

It won’t be easy to replace a class player like Benzema but letting him go was the right decision.

Another player who also left the club in the summer on a free transfer was Marco Asensio. The 27-year-old right winger joined PSG.

Asensio struggled to make a huge impact in the past couple of seasons, and it was a good decision from the club to allow him to leave.

Young centre-back Rafa Marin joined Alaves on loan while Jesus Vallejo also joined Granada on a temporary deal.

Madrid needed to add depth in midfield in the summer transfer window, and they added Jude Bellingham.

While both Modric and Kroos remain at the club, the time has come for Los Blancos to think about the future.

Bellingham joined Dortmund on a big-money transfer fee, and the move has come as a bit of a surprise. The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, Manchester United and other top Premier League clubs, but Madrid entered the scene and got him.

The youngster has established himself as a fantastic holding midfielder for England, and he can be a great asset for the club. He is strong at tackling, terrific with his movement, and equally outstanding at ball retention.

Madrid also added Arda Guler from Fenerbahce. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder joined from Fenerbahce and big things are expected of him.

He is known for his mesmerizing skills but shouldn’t expect too much at the start of his career. Madrid are a massive club and he must wait for the right opportunity to show his caliber.

We have seen talents come and wasted at Bernabeu and let’s hope that won’t be the case with this youngster. If he can develop gradually, then Madrid will have a jewel on their hands.

Spanish striker Joselu have joined on loan for a paltry fee, while Kepa Arrizabalaga also joined from Chelsea on loan. Left-back Fran Garcia has joined from Rayo Vallecano.

Latest rumours: probable ins and outs

Liverpool have reportedly submitted a massive offer to Madrid midfielder Tchouameni. The French midfielder is facing an uncertain future at the club following the arrival of Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

The Reds are desperate to add one more quality midfielder this summer having missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

They are now hoping to tempt the La Liga giants to part ways with the 23-year-old. The Frenchman was seen as one of the rising stars of European football when he joined last summer, but he failed to build on the hype.

He was tipped to replace Casemiro, but he quickly became out of favour. While Madrid see him as a long-term investment, there is a chance that they could be tempted to offload him if the offer is right.

Liverpool reportedly are offering €80 million upfront with a further €20 million in add-ons, and it remains to be seen whether Madrid will accept it.

Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are still around, but Madrid need long-term replacements for the veteran heroes.

Madrid are aiming to sign Mbappe in the remaining few days of the transfer window. If they can manage to pull off a deal for him, they will become clear favourites to win the title.

The French forward doesn’t need any introduction. He is a world-class player and will add tremendous quality to an already star-studded side. The 24-year-old has just a year on his current deal and he is not willing to sign a new contract with PSG.

Madrid, however, won’t pay €250 million for Mbappe who was not included in the pre-season tour of Japan. He also didn’t feature in the season opener against Lorient.

The Parisiens are confident of striking a new deal with him. Madrid at best can offer a fee of around £102m for Mbappe, but whether PSG will accept it remains unclear.

Another player who could join Madrid in the remaining few days in Arsenal defender Gabriel. The centre-back is apparently happy at Arsenal, but you don’t generally say ‘no’ when Madrid come calling.

Eder Militao has been ruled out for months after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury. Do Madrid need another defender? They are well stocked for defenders but anything can happen in the transfer market.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia are also interested in signing Gabriel. He was left out of Arsenal’s opening Premier League game against Nottingham Forest, but the 25-year-old Brazil international is committed to Arsenal, and a move away from the club looks unlikely.

Madrid are also showing keen interest in signing Manchester City’s defender Aymeric Laporte. The Spain defender has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia but Madrid could hijack the deal.

Al-Nassr reported agreed a fee with Man City over a move, but Laporte is waiting to see if Madrid show any interest after losing their Brazil star Eder Militao to a torn ACL.

He is a vastly experienced defender who would add quality to the side, but Ancelotti probably doesn’t feel the need to sign another defender.
