Arsenal could look to sign Man Utd target Benjamin Pavard

Arsenal could reportedly look to sign Manchester United target and Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard in this transfer window, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

After the new signing Jurrien Timber’s unfortunate injury issue, the Gunners have started to explore the market to sign a new defender to bolster their backline.

Aymeric Laporte, Mohamed Simakan and Timothy Castagne have all been mentioned as potential targets for the North London club in recent times but it appears Pavard is on their radar as well.

It has previously been suggested that having won everything with Bayern over the last few years, the Frenchman is now keen on moving away from the Allianz Arena to take a new challenge in his career.

Premier League is reportedly the 27-year-old’s preferred destination and it was initially thought Man Utd were looking to sign him to replace Harry Maguire by taking advantage of this situation.

Pavard to Arsenal

However, writing on Twitter, Romano has reported that after the Englishman’s decision to stay at Old Trafford, Pavard’s potential move to United is currently in jeopardy.

The journalist further claims that Inter Milan are also keen on signing him this summer and are planning to open formal talks with Bayern to acquire his service.

But, Romano claims that Arsenal could trump Man Utd and Inter in this race by deciding to make a move for Pavard to replace Timber in this transfer window.

Romano wrote:

“Benjamin Pavard, one to watch as he’s prepared to leave Bayern now. Inter have Pavard on top of the list — proposal expected soon to open talks. Man United deal stalling due to Maguire situation. …could become option for Arsenal to replace Timber — no decision yet.”

It has been suggested that although Pavard is willing to leave Bayern Munich this summer, Thomas Tuchel is desperate to keep hold of him. However, the Bavarian club could opt to change their stance if they receive a fee of at least £39m.

Pavard has entered the final year of his current contract and has decided not to sign an extension with Bayern. So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to spend the reported £39m fee to sign the France international – who is set to be available for free in less than 12 months – if they formalise their interest this summer.
