Pundit claims Arsenal have made mistake signing Havertz
Former midfielder turned pundit Robbie Mustoe has claimed that Arsenal have made a mistake by signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea this summer.
The Gunners have been busy in this transfer window and have already purchased Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice and Havertz to strengthen the squad ahead of crucial next season.
However, speaking on the NBC Sports’ 2 Robbies Podcast, Mustoe has said that he is struggling to understand why Arteta has decided to sign the former Bayer Leverkusen star after his underwhelming time at Stamford Bridge over the last few years.
The pundit further states that he wouldn’t have made the move if he were in the Gunners’ hot seat, instead, the former midfielder would have spent the reported £65m fee on other options. So, it seems Mustoe feels it wasn’t a wise decision from Arsenal to sign the German international.
Havertz
Mustoe said:
“Kai Havertz from Chelsea going to Arsenal is the one of his three big signings where I’m like, ‘What can Mikel [Arteta] do differently?’
“Obviously, Arteta feels that he can play him in a different spot or get something that takes the potential and the raw talent that he’s obviously got Kai Havertz into the production of assists and possession and goals and creativity.
“I’m like, you know what, I wouldn’t have done it. I would not have spent that amount of money on a player that, I know it’s different and Arsenal’s different to Chelsea, but I would not have done that. I would have found another avenue to go down to.”
Arteta likes to have versatile players in his squad and it seems Havertz’s ability to play different positions has tempted the Spanish boss to sign the 24-year-old. The German can play anywhere across the attacking midfield position as well as in the centre-forward role.
Havertz is a talented player and possesses high potential. He is technically sound, works hard without possession, can create chances for the attackers and also can finish off his chances.
If Arteta can help the German regain his confidence then Havertz could manage to resurrect his career at the Emirates Stadium. So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Havertz can blossom under Arteta’s guidance and reach his full potential in the coming years.
