Arsenal are reportedly looking to hijack Lazio’s move to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Djibril Sow this summer, as per the Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.

The Gunners have decided to spend big in this transfer window in order to close the gap with Manchester City and challenge on all fronts from next season.

They have already purchased Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber by splashing more than £200m. But, it has been suggested that the Gunners won’t stop their spending spree just yet as they are keen on adding more firepower in this transfer window.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on signing a second midfield option after Rice this summer. Several players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months with Moises Caicedo, Bitello and Romeo Lavia being mentioned as potential targets but Sow is reportedly on their radar as well.

Arsenal previously expressed their intention of signing the Swiss but they never formalised their interest so it was thought that they cooled down their interest in him.

Sow to Arsenal

In the meantime, Lazio have accelerated their efforts and are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Frankfurt to purchase the 26-year-old.

However, while citing and translating the print version of Corriere dello Sport, Sport Witness has now reported that Arsenal remain interested in signing Sow and they could make a swoop to hijack Lazio’s move to sign the midfielder.

Sow has entered the final year of his current contract and has decided not to sign an extension with the Eagles. So, Frankfurt are ready to let their star man leave and want a fee of around €15m[£13m]. So, Arsenal could manage to purchase the 26-year-old for an affordable fee this summer if they formalise their interest.

It has been suggested that after Arsenal decided to keep Thomas Partey in the squad, they may now cool down their interest in signing a new midfielder.

But, it seems the North London club remain keen on adding a new option to their engine room with Sow now emerging as a serious target. It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Sow this summer and hijack Lazio’s move.
