Arsenal in direct contact with Gremio to sign Bitello

By on July 20, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly in direct talks with Gremio to sign Bitello in this transfer window, as per the Brazilian outlet UOL.

It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are keen on strengthening their engine room this summer so they have purchased Declan Rice from West Ham United in a record £105m deal.

It is believed that Mikel Arteta is looking to sign a second midfield option before the end of this transfer window and Romeo Lavia has been mentioned as the primary target.

However, it has been reported that Southampton want a fee of around £50m to let their star man leave but Arsenal are reluctant to spend that much money having already splashed more than £200m to bolster their squad in this transfer window.

So, it seems the Gunners have opted to explore cheaper alternatives to reinforce their engine room and Bitello has emerged as a serious target in recent times.

Bitello to Arsenal

According to the report by UOL, Arsenal are interested in signing Bitello and Edu has already opened direct contact with Gremio to ‘close the deal’ over the coming days.

The Brazilian outlet further claims that the 23-year-old is an extremely ‘talented’ and ‘intelligent’ footballer. He is technically sound, quick and has an eye for scoring goals from distance so, he possesses the necessary attributes to find success in the Premier League.

It has previously been reported that Gremio are ready to let their star man leave if they receive an offer of around £9m this summer. So, the reported fee shouldn’t be an issue for Arteta’s side to broker a deal for the Brazilian.

After selling Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal signed Rice to strengthen their midfield department. But the Englishman is a deep-lying playmaker so I think the North London club should replace the Swiss international by signing a new box-to-box midfielder before the start of next season.

Bitello could be a shrewd signing to reinforce their engine room. So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually decide to lure the South American to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.
