Arsenal ready to accelerate efforts to sign Romeo Lavia
Arsenal are reportedly preparing to ramp up their efforts to sign Southampton star Romeo Lavia this summer, as per Football Insider.
It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are keen on strengthening their engine room in this transfer window and they are planning to sign up to two new midfielders.
Mikel Arteta’s side have already purchased Declan Rice having sold Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen. It is now believed that they will look to sign another midfield option over the coming weeks after cashing-in on Thomas Partey.
Several players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months with Lavia being mentioned as a serious target. However, it has recently been reported that Arsenal don’t want to meet Southampton’s £45m valuation to sign the 19-year-old.
So, it was thought that Arsenal have decided to cool down their interest in him as they have been getting linked with different options in recent weeks.
Lavia to Arsenal
However, according to the report by Football Insider, Arsenal remain keen on signing the Belgian and they are ready to accelerate their efforts to purchase the player.
The report further claims that the Gunners have held contact with the player’s representatives and the youngster has expressed his desire to move to the Emirates Stadium as he is a ‘big fan’ of Arteta.
However, Football Insider states that purchasing Lavia won’t be easy for Arsenal as Liverpool and Chelsea are also keen on acquiring his service in this transfer window.
The Southampton star is a deep-lying playmaker by trait but can also play in the box-to-box role. He is dynamic, strong, efficient in linking-up the play from defence to attack, has an eye for long-range passing and also can contribute defensively as well.
The youngster showcased glimpses of talent in his debut campaign in the Premier League last season. So, he would certainly be a great coup for Arsenal if they sign him before the start of next season.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually manage to beat Liverpool and Chelsea in this race by signing Lavia in this transfer window.
