Arsenal offered the chance to sign PSV ace Xavi Simons
Arsenal have reportedly been offered the chance to sign PSV Eindhoven star Xavi Simons in this transfer window, as per the transfer journalist Paul Brown.
It is an open secret that the Gunners have prioritised bolstering their engine room this summer. They have already secured Kai Havertz’s signature from Chelsea and are also on the verge of luring primary target Declan Rice to the Emirates Stadium after agreeing on a British record £105m deal with West Ham United.
However, it has been suggested that Mikel Arteta wants to add more firepower to his engine room before the start of next season and have been linked with numerous options over the last few weeks. Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo have been mentioned as serious targets but Simons is reportedly on their radar as well.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown has suggested that Arsenal are interested in Simons and they have been offered the chance to sign him this summer. But the Gunners haven’t formalised their interest yet, though things could change over the coming weeks.
Simons to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that Lavia is high on Arteta’s wish-list and the North London club have already enquired about the details to sign him this summer. So, perhaps, Simons is an alternative option should they fail to purchase the Southampton star.
Brown also states that Arsenal will first focus on selling players before making moves to strengthen the squad over the coming days.
Brown said:
“I know they have been offered Xavi Simons. They do have an interest there but haven’t followed it up as yet. Romeo Lavia, they’ve clearly enquired about, so that would make him, of those names, the more likely to join.
“But as I say, I think that for Arsenal to buy another midfielder, once the Declan Rice deal is done, I think they’ll be looking to move somebody out first.”
However, it has been suggested that Paris Saint-Germain have a buy-back option to re-sign the player for just £5m and having been impressed by his displays last term, they are now prepared to bring him back to Parc des Princes. So, Arsenal are set to face fierce competition from the Ligue 1 giants in getting any potential deal done for the Netherlands international.
After joining PSV last summer, the 20-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut campaign at the Eredivisie last term, scoring 19 goals and registering eight assists in 34 league appearances.
Simons – valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt – is an extremely talented player and possesses the potential to become a world-class midfielder going forward. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they opt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.
