Arsenal are reportedly ‘on the verge’ of signing West Ham United star Declan Rice in this transfer window, as per the transfer journalist Rudy Galetti.

It has widely been suggested that the Gunners have prioritised strengthening their engine room this summer and have identified the England international as the primary target.

The North London club initially submitted two official proposals worth up to £90m to acquire his service. But, the Hammers turned down both offers as they were demanding a fee of more than £100m to let their biggest asset leave.

In the meantime, Manchester City also decided to join the race and submitted a £90m offer to secure his signature but West Ham rejected that bid as well.

However, Arsenal’s final proposal of around £105m – which is the British record bid – was enough to beat Man City in this race and convince the East London club to sell the midfielder.

Rice to Arsenal

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Galetti has reported that Arsenal are ‘on the verge’ of signing the midfielder and the deal has already been done. The journalist further claims that Mikel Arteta ‘pushed hard’ to lure him to the Emirates Stadium and he is finally getting his wish fulfilled.

Galetti said:

“Arteta pushed hard for him and that was a key figure in the success of the deal and he can’t wait to have Declan at his disposal. Manchester City, just for a few days, made a light attempt in their position, but they were also secondary.

“Declan Rice is on the verge of joining Arsenal. As we know, it’s a done deal – the story of Declan Rice after many months is arriving to the end.”

Declan Rice is an extremely talented player and has already showcased his talent in the Premier League over the last few years. So, he would be a statement signing for Arsenal and his acquisition would definitely help the North London club in challenging for the biggest honours from next season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have already displayed their willingness to spend big in this transfer window as they are closing in on a deal to sign Jurrien Timber as well having already secured Kai Havertz’s signature from Chelsea. So, it is going to be interesting to see how much more cash Arsenal will splash to reinforce their squad in this transfer window.
