Ajax star Jurrien Timber agreed to join Arsenal this summer

Ajax Amsterdam star Jurrien Timber has reportedly agreed to join Arsenal in this transfer window, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title last term, it has widely been suggested that the Gunners are looking to spend big this summer to strengthen the squad in order to challenge on all fronts from next season.

They have reportedly prioritised bolstering their midfield department this summer and along with that reinforcing the attack and backline is also on Mikel Arteta’s agenda.

Several defenders have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months with Edmond Tapsoba, Ivan Fresneda and Joao Cancelo being among them, but, Timber is now emerging as the priority target.

It has recently been reported that Arsenal have already opened talks with Ajax to sign the Netherlands international and have submitted a £30m bid. However, Ajax want £50m to let their star man leave but it is believed that a ‘compromise can be reached between the two clubs’.

Timber to Arsenal

Now, writing on Twitter, Romano has reported that Arsenal are ‘advancing’ in talks to reach an agreement with Timber regarding the personal terms and the Dutchman has agreed to move to the Emirates Stadium.

The journalist further claims that Arsenal will continue negotiating with Ajax to find an agreement to sign the 22-year-old and they will submit an improved bid over the coming days. So, it appears Arsenal are getting closer to signing Timber in this transfer window.

Romano wrote:

“Understand Arsenal are advancing on full agreement on personal terms with Jurrien Timber. The player has accepted to join Arsenal. Negotiations will follow between Ajax and Arsenal in the next hours and days. New bid expected soon.”

Timber is a versatile defender – who can play as a centre-back as well as a right-back. The youngster is a highly talented player and would be a great coup for Arsenal if the North London club manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window. It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal manage to purchase Timber to bolster their backline over the coming days.
