Amadou-Onana

Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move for Everton star Amadou Onana this summer, as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.

It is an open secret that the Gunners have prioritised strengthening their engine room this summer. They are seemingly looking to purchase two new midfielders after deciding to transfer list Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.

Declan Rice has been mentioned as Mikel Arteta’s primary target and the North London club have already submitted two official proposals worth up to £90m. But, West Ham United rejected both offers and are asking a fee of around £100m to let their star man leave.

Nevertheless, Arsenal are confident that they will be able to broker a deal for the Englishman and are expected to submit a third bid – which will be closer to the Hammers’ valuation.

On the other hand, Arsenal are also plotting a move for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia and they have already opened formal talks with the Saints over a potential summer move.

Onana to Arsenal

Fabrizio Romano has recently suggested that the Gunners are ‘advancing in negotiations’ with Southampton to sign the 19-year-old and they have also been in contact with the player’s representatives in order to sort out the personal terms.

So, it appeared Rice and Lavia are the two primary targets that Arsenal are looking to sign in order to reinforce their engine room. However, now speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has said that although Arteta’s side are exploring the possibility of signing Lavia, they aren’t expected to purchase him this summer.

The journalist further claims that Onana is an option that they are currently looking at so they could make a move for him in this transfer window in order to strengthen their midfield department.

Jones said:

“Lavia is on the list. So, I think that they are looking at that as an option. I don’t think they are expecting that they’ll sign him, but they certainly are exploring it. I’ve heard they’re also considering Amadou Onana from Everton as well as a potential that they look into.”

It has been suggested that having signed Onana last summer, Everton aren’t willing to let their star man leave for cheap and want a fee of around £60m if they are forced to cash-in. So, Arsenal will need to spend big to acquire the 21-year-old’s services this summer.

The youngster enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the Premier League last term, playing a key role in Everton’s survival. So, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they decide to sign him in this transfer window.

It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually decide to sign Lavia or formalise their interest in Onana to beef up their midfield.
