Pundit urges Rice to join Arsenal over Man Utd this summer

Declan-Rice

Former striker turned pundit Ally McCoist has urged Declan Rice to join Arsenal over Manchester United this summer.

The 24-year-old has heavily been linked with a move away from West Ham United ahead of the summer window. It has been suggested that the midfielder is keen on taking the next step in his career and wants to play Champions League football next season.

It has widely been reported that Arsenal have prioritised strengthening their engine room during the off-season and have identified Rice as the primary target. However, it has been suggested that Man Utd have also been showing a genuine interest in purchasing the West Ham star.

So, it seems the Gunners are set to face tough competition from the Red Devils in getting any potential deal done for the England international.

But, speaking on talkSport, McCoist has urged Rice to snub Man Utd in favour of joining Arsenal due to the fact that the pundit believes the Gunners are currently way ahead in their rebuild than the Red Devils after challenging for the league title this season.

McCoist said:

“If I’m Declan Rice and I’m weighing up my options, I’d rather go to Arsenal than Manchester United. Man Utd look like they’re 4/5 players behind Man City. Arsenal can get nearer.”

Rice to Arsenal

It has been suggested that Arsenal are set to submit the opening bid to sign Rice this week after the Hammers’ Conference League final clash against Fiorentina.

It has been reported that Mikel Arteta’s side are planning to submit a £92m offer to purchase the England international. However, West Ham have made it clear several times that they want at least £100m for their star man.

So, it is going to be interesting to see whether David Moyes’ side decide to accept the Gunners’ opening proposal or not. It has been suggested that Arsenal don’t want to match West Ham’s asking price to sign Rice so it will be difficult for the North London club to acquire the 24-year-old’s services should the Hammers stay firm on their valuation.

Rice has already showcased his talent in the Premier League and on the international stage over the last few years. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they were to be able to sign him this summer.

It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually manage to sign Rice in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen their engine room.

How many times have Arsenal lost out on big time players because they want to chip away at the asking price of a player to the point another club jumps in and Arsenal lose out??
