James Maddison

Arsenal have been told to pay £40m to sign midfield target and Leicester City star James Maddison this summer, as per The Athletic.

Despite enduring relegation with the Foxes, the 26-year-old has enjoyed a productive campaign this term, scoring 10 goals and notching up nine assists in 30 league appearances.

So, it is not a surprise to see that Maddison has been attracting a lot of interest from several big Premier League clubs with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.

It has been suggested that following Leicester’s relegation, they will be forced to sell some of their assets and Maddison is one of the player – who might leave during the off-season.

According to the report by The Athletic, Leicester want a fee of around £40m to let their star man leave this summer so Arsenal will be able to purchase the highly talented player for a reasonable fee if they formalise their interest.

However, it has been suggested that securing Maddison’s signature won’t be easy for the Gunners as Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have also registered their interest in signing the England international.

Maddison to Arsenal

Maddison is a versatile player – who likes to be deployed in the attacking midfield role but can also play on the flanks. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, is excellent in taking set-pieces, has the ability to create chances for the attackers and also can finish off his chances.

He is an extremely talented player and possesses high potential. The 26-year-old would be an ideal option to play in Mikel Arteta’s possession-based style of football so, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they decide to sign him this summer.

However, having already got Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira in the squad, Arsenal don’t need to invest more to strengthen their number ten position. So, the Gunners would be better off splashing the cash to reinforce other areas of the squad in the upcoming transfer window.

It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to make a concrete approach to sign Maddison this summer if he eventually ends up leaving the King Power Stadium during the off-season.
