Arsenal keeping tabs on Leeds star Wilfried Gnonto
Arsenal have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto ahead of a potential summer move, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercato.
It has been suggested that the Yorkshire club are expected to sell some of their assets this summer after failing to stay up in the Premier League and the Italian could be one of the players – who might leave.
Upon joining the club last summer, the 19-year-old enjoyed a promising debut campaign at the Elland Road this season despite the Peacocks’ struggles, scoring two goals and registering four assists in 14 league starts. It seems the youngster’s impressive displays for Leeds have caught the attention of several big English clubs, including Arsenal.
According to the report by Calciomercato, Arsenal have been showing a concrete interest in signing Gnonto and they have been following his situation ‘closely’ ahead of a potential summer move. So, Mikel Arteta’s side could opt to formalise their interest if an opportunity arises.
Gnonto to Arsenal
However, the report claims that Arsenal are set to face fierce competition from Manchester City, Sassuolo, Fiorentina and AS Roma in getting any potential deal done for the Leeds star as they are also keen on signing him in the upcoming transfer window.
It has previously been suggested that Leeds want at least £40m to let their star man leave this summer. So, Arsenal will have to spend a big chunk of their transfer budget to acquire the Italy international’s services.
Gnonto can play anywhere across the front line. He is quick, technically sound, works extremely hard without possession, has the efficiency to dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and also can create chances for the attackers.
The Italian has already showcased glimpses of his talent during a very short spell in the English top-flight. So, the youngster would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if Arteta’s side manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to formalise their interest in signing Gnonto if he eventually ends up leaving Leeds during the off-season.
