Arsenal interested in signing Zenit star Malcom this summer

By on May 24, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly showing an interest in signing Zenit Saint Petersburg forward Malcom this summer, as per 90min.

The 26-year-old started his career with great promise at Bordeaux and after being impressed by his displays for the Ligue 1 side, Barcelona decided to sign him back in 2018 in a £36m deal.

But, Malcom failed to find his feet in La Liga before being shifted out to Zenit. Upon moving to the Gazprom Arena, the forward has managed to resurrect his career and has been enjoying a stellar campaign this term, scoring 23 goals and registering seven assists in 27 Premier Liga appearances.

It appears the South American’s promising performances for Zenit haven’t gone unnoticed as he has already attracted the attention of several big Premier League clubs with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.

According to the report by 90min, Malcom wants to take a new challenge in his career so he is willing to leave Zenit this summer. The report further claims that the player’s representatives have already made the winger’s desire known to the Russian club and they have started to explore options in the market.

Malcom to Arsenal

90min also states that Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Malcom to strengthen their forward department and Zenit are ready to cash-in if they receive an offer of around £40m.

But, the report says that signing the South American won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Manchester City, PSG and Newcastle United are also eyeing a move for him.

After recently signing a new deal, Malcom still has more than four years left in his current contract. So, Zenit are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in this summer.

It has widely been suggested that Mikel Arteta wants to sign a new left-footed right-winger to support Bukayo Saka. They have been linked with a few options ahead of the summer window with Malcom now emerging as a serious target.

The 26-year-old is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to create chances for fellow attackers and also has an eye for scoring goals from distance.

Malcom is an extremely talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they decide to sign him this summer. However, it remains to be seen whether Arteta’s side opt to formalise their interest in signing Malcom should he eventually leaves Zenit at the end of this season.
