Arsenal line up summer move for Inter star Lautaro Martinez
Arsenal are reportedly planning to sign Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez this summer, as per the Italian outlet Interlive.it.
The 25-year-old has been enjoying a brilliant campaign at the Giuseppe Meazza this term, scoring 23 goals and registering eight assists in 53 appearances in all competitions, helping his team in reaching the final of the Champions League and Coppa Italia.
The Argentinian’s impressive performances for Inter have attracted the attention of several big clubs around Europe with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.
According to the report by Interlive.it, Arsenal are ready to spend big in the upcoming transfer window and have earmarked attack is an area that needs strengthening.
The report further claims that Mikel Arteta has identified Martinez as an ideal option to reinforce the forward line and Inter will be happy to let the striker leave if they receive an offer of around £70m this summer.
Martinez to Arsenal
However, Interlive.it says that Arsenal are expected to face fierce competition from English rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in securing any potential deal for Martínez as they are also plotting a swoop for him.
The 25-year-old still has more than three years left in his current contract so Inter are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in this summer.
It has been suggested that despite already having Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard and Falorin Balogun – who is set to return after a successful loan spell in Ligue 1 – in the squad, Arteta wants to sign a new proven goal-scorer to support Jesus next season.
They have been linked with numerous options over the last few months with Dusan Vlahovic, Rasmus Hojlund and Victor Osimhen being among them, but Martinez is on their radar as well.
The Inter star has established himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A over the last few years. So, signing a talent like him would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they manage to acquire his service at the end of this season.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to formalise their interest in Martinez if they opt to bolster their forward line this summer.
