Arsenal keen on signing Man City star Cancelo this summer
Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign Portugal international Joao Cancelo this summer, as per The Telegraph.
It has recently been suggested that the Gunners are expected to remain active in the upcoming transfer window to build a squad that can challenge on all fronts from next season.
The North London club are reportedly ready to hand Mikel Arteta over £200m to let him purchase his preferred targets and the Spanish boss is seemingly planning to strengthen the midfield, attack and defence in the summer.
According to the report by The Telegraph, Arsenal have decided to accelerate their efforts to sign a new right-back following Takehiro Tomiyasu’s recent injury issues and have now identified Cancelo as an ideal option.
However, the report claims that Arteta’s side are fearful that Manchester City may oppose selling any more players to them having already sold Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer.
Cancelo to Arsenal
But, it has been suggested that Joao Cancelo fell out with the Citizen boss Pep Guardiola before joining Bayern Munich on loan last winter. So, if their relationship doesn’t get repaired, it is likely that Man City will cash-in on him should a club like Arsenal match their asking price.
It has been reported that Bayern have a £62m option to make the fullback’s loan move permanent at the end of this season, but they are unlikely to trigger that option.
So, if Arsenal decide to submit an offer of around £62m then they could be able to get a deal done for Cancelo in the summer. Therefore, Mikel Arteta’s side will have to spend a big chunk of their transfer budget to lure the fullback to the Emirates Stadium.
The 28-year-old is quick, technically sound, excellent going forward and also can chip in with some important goals. In addition, he has experience of winning titles with different clubs so, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature at the end of this season.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal manage to broker a deal for Cancelo should they opt to formalise their interest during the off-season.
