Arsenal looking to sign Real Madrid star Ferland Mendy

By on May 15, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Cadena Ser via Sport.

It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are set to be busy in the upcoming transfer window in order to strengthen the squad to challenge on all fronts from next season.

Midfield is an area that Mikel Arteta wants to bolster during the off-season but it has been suggested that reinforcing the defence is also on the Gunners boss’ agenda.

Arsenal reportedly want to sign a new centre-back and a right-back in the summer, but it appears they are also looking to beef up their left-back position with Mendy now emerging as a serious option.

According to the report by Cadena Ser (via Sport), Real Madrid are ready to cash-in on Mendy this summer and are open to selling their star man for as little as £17m.

Mendy to Arsenal

The report further claims that Arsenal have already registered their interest in signing the Frenchman and are ready to make a move for him during the off-season.

Following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s arrival at the beginning of this term, Kieran Tierney has found it difficult to break into Arteta’s starting eleven this season.

So, speculation surrounding the Scotsman’s future continues to grow ahead of the summer window and it has been reported that he may move away at the end of this season.

Therefore, if Tierney ends up leaving the club then signing a replacement would become a necessity for Arsenal and in that case, Mendy could be an excellent addition.

The Real Madrid man is comfortable playing out from the back, is excellent in defensive contributions, has an eye for long-range passing and also can contribute going forward as well.

Mendy is an extremely talented player and would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature at the end of this season. Also, the reported £17m fee would be a bargain.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to formalise their interest in signing the France international should he eventually ends up leaving the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in the summer.
