Arsenal showing interest in signing Ajax star Devyne Rensch
Arsenal are reportedly showing an interest in signing Ajax Amsterdam defender Devyne Rensch in the summer, as per Football Insider.
The Gunners are seemingly looking to strengthen their defence by signing a new full-back in the upcoming transfer window as they have continuously been linked with numerous right-back options in recent times.
Ivan Fresneda, Ridle Baku and Joao Cancelo have all been mentioned as potential targets for the North London club but, Rensch is now emerging as a serious target.
According to the report by Football Insider, Mikel Arteta is planning to use Ben White, who has been playing on the flanks amid Takehiro Tomyiasu’s injury absence this term, in his preferred centre-back role next season so the Spanish boss is exploring the possibility of signing a new full-back this summer.
The report further claims that Arsenal have identified Fresneda as their primary target to strengthen the right side of the defence but they are lining up Rensch as an alternative option if they fail to secure a deal for the Real Valladolid starlet.
Rensch to Arsenal
Rensch – valued at around £6m by Transfermarkt – still has more than two years left in his current contract. So, Ajax are in no rush to let their star man leave this summer and Arsenal would need to offer a lucrative proposal to persuade the Eredivisie giants to sell.
Despite Ajax’s disappointing season this term, Rensch has been displaying promising performances this campaign, scoring three goals and keeping four clean-sheets in 23 Eredivisie appearances.
Rensch is quick, technically sound, comfortable with both feet and has an eye for long-range passing. He also has the ability to play out from the back, is excellent in defensive contributions, can chip in with some important goals and also can create chances for the attackers.
The Ajax star possesses the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s system. So, he would be an excellent acquisition for the North London club if they manage to get a deal done at the end of this season.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal manage to secure a deal for their priority target Fresneda or shift focus on alternative options such as Rensch to strengthen their right-back position in the summer.
