Arsenal are reportedly ‘going crazy’ to sign Villarreal forward Samuel Chukwueze this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The 23-year-old has been enjoying a productive campaign at the Estadio de la Cerámica this season, scoring six goals and notching up five assists in 28 league appearances.

After showcasing glimpses of his talent for Villarreal in recent campaigns, the Nigerian has been attracting a lot of interest from several big European clubs with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.

Sport Witness cites and translates the print version of Mundo Deportivo as saying that Chukwueze is planning to move away from Estadio de la Cerámica to take a new challenge in his career and Arsenal are ‘going crazy’ to purchase the Nigeria international at the end of this season.

However, the report says that signing Chukwueze won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as West Ham United are also plotting a summer swoop for the 23-year-old. But, it is highly unlikely that the Hammers would be able to beat Mikel Arteta’s side in this race if both clubs go head-to-head over a deal.

Chukwueze to Arsenal

The Villarreal star has entered the final 15 months of his current contract and given the winger is willing to leave, he is unlikely to sign a new deal. So, the Yellow Submarine could cash-in at the end of this season in fear of losing him for free and in that case, Arsenal would be able to purchase the winger in a cut-price deal. The player is currently valued at £17.6m by Transfermarkt, but Arsenal may hope to drive the price down given his contract situation.

Chukwueze is a left-footed right winger, he is quick, technically brilliant, can dribble past the opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to create chances for fellow attackers and also can finish off his chances.

With Arsenal looking to purchase a new right winger to support Bukayo Saka, Chukwueze would be an ideal signing if they manage to get a deal done this summer.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to make a concrete approach to sign Chukwueze if he eventually leaves Villarreal at the end of this season.

Meanwhile, following a disappointing 2-2 draw against West Ham United last weekend, Arsenal are set to face off versus Southampton tonight before taking on the title rival Manchester City next week. So, two crucial matches lie ahead for the Gunners in the Premier League.
