Journalist: Vlahovic would be statement signing for Arsenal

Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic would be a statement signing for Arsenal if they manage to lure him to north London at the end of this season, as per the transfer journalist Peter O’Rourke.

The Gunners hold a long-term interest in the 23-year-old as they were keen on securing his signature 18 months ago after being impressed by his displays for Fiorentina.

But, Vlahovic opted to move to the Allianz Stadium and the north London club missed out on purchasing their key forward target. So, Arsenal shifted their focus to alternative attackers and decided to sign Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard over the last two transfer windows to strengthen their front line.

However, it has been suggested that Vlahovic isn’t happy at Juventus and wants to move away. So, having failed to sign the Serbian last time around, Arsenal are willing to take advantage of this situation and are ready to reignite their interest.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, O’Rourke has said that Vlahovic is a proven goal-scorer and has already showcased his talent at the highest level. So, he would be a ‘big-name’ signing for Arsenal if they manage to lure him away from the Allianz Stadium in the summer.

Vlahovic to Arsenal

The journalist further claims that should Arsenal sign the Juventus man then that would show the progress the Gunners have made this season as they would once again be able to attract the biggest talent in world football.

O’Rourke said:

“He’s [Vlahovic] a proven striker; he’s done really well in Serie A and also on the international scene as well, so that’d be a big-name signing and it would just continue to show the progress that Arsenal are making that they are actually able to make these types of signings.”

It has been suggested that Juventus could cash-in on some of their biggest assets if they – sitting seven points behind the top four – fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. Vlahovic could come under the chopping block and the Bianconeri may ask at around £70m to let their star man leave this summer.

The 23-year-old would be a great coup and would certainly bolster Arsenal’s attack if he were to move to the Emirates Stadium at the end of this season.

However, the Gunners are well-stocked in their number nine position as they already have Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard and Falorin Balogun, who is set to return after a successful loan spell in Ligue 1, in the squad. So, I think they don’t need to invest more to strengthen the centre-forward position at the moment.
