Arsenal plotting summer swoop for Brighton star Mac Allister

Arsenal are reportedly plotting a summer swoop for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, as per the TyC Sports journalist Cesar Luis Merlo.
The north London club are looking to strengthen their squad to challenge on all fronts next season and bolstering the engine room appears to be Mikel Arteta’s priority.
Arsenal have been linked with numerous midfielders ahead of the summer window with Declan Rice being mentioned as their primary target, however, it seems Mac Allister is also on Arteta’s wish-list.
Writing on Twitter, Luis Merlo has reported that Arsenal are showing a ‘concrete’ interest in signing the Argentine international and that negotiations have already started with two potential suitors.
However, the journalist suggests that signing Mac Allister won’t be easy for the north London club as Manchester United and Liverpool are also lining up a move for the midfielder.
Mac Allister to Arsenal
Luis Merlo wrote:
“Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have concrete interest in signing Alexis Mac Allister in the next transfer market. Two of those clubs are already negotiating for the Brighton footballer.
His father and agent are in England monitoring the situation.”
Mac Allister still has more than two years left in his current contract so Brighton are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to let their star man leave this summer. And it has previously been reported that the Seagulls want at least £70m to sell the Argentine.
The Brighton star has been displaying brilliant performances over the last few months, playing a pivotal role in Roberto de Zerbi’s side’s top-four race this term and was an integral part of Argentina’s first eleven that won the World Cup last year.
Mac Allister can play anywhere across the midfield, he is technically sound, can link up the play from defence to attack, is excellent in delivering set-piece, can create chances for the forward players and also has an eye for scoring goals.
So, the 24-year-old would certainly be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to lure him away from the AMEX Stadium at the end of this season.
However, Brighton like to play hardball to sell their assets so, it will be very difficult for Arteta’s side to secure Mac Allister’s service if they decide to make a swoop for him at the end of this season.
