Moises Caicedo

Arsenal could still make a summer swoop for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo despite the Ecuadorian signing a new deal with the Seagulls, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

It is now an open secret that the Gunners are looking to bolster their squad for next season and reinforcing the engine room is high on Mikel Arteta’s summer list.

It has widely been suggested that West Ham United’s wantaway star Declan Rice is the Spanish boss’ primary target. But, it’s been reported that Arsenal are exploring the possibility of purchasing two high-profile additions to their midfield department and Caicedo, who was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this winter, reportedly remains on Arteta’s radar.

However, the midfielder has recently signed a new deal with Brighton and it was thought that this might cool down Arsenal’s interest.

But, writing on Caught offside, Romano has claimed that the midfielder’s potential suitors such as Arsenal haven’t been put off by that and are still eyeing a summer swoop for him.

Caicedo to Arsenal

The journalist further says that Arsenal offered a lucrative contract proposal to persuade Caicedo to join the club in January, but having rejected the midfielder’s departure, Brighton have now awarded a new contract to the Ecuadorian with a salary hike.

However, Romano states that despite signing the extension, the South American could still move away from the South Coast side in the summer.

Romano said:

“Arsenal offered Moises Caicedo a huge salary in January, which is why Brighton have given him a new contract with a pay rise, but it won’t stop top clubs being there for the midfielder in the summer.”

It has been reported that Brighton want a fee of around £90m if they are forced to cash in on Caicedo at the end of this season. So, Arsenal will have to break the bank to get this deal done.

Rice is valued at around £80m by West Ham, while the South American could cost £90m. Therefore, the north London club will need to spend a fee of £170m combined to broker deals for both Rice and Caicedo in the summer.

It appears Arsenal are looking to splash the cash to strengthen the squad for next season so, an exciting summer window seemingly lies ahead for the Emirates faithful.
