Arsenal could make a January swoop for Youri Tielemans
Arsenal could reportedly make a January swoop for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have been looking to reinforce their midfield department since the last transfer window. It was thought that the 25-year-old was their priority target to bolster the engine room last summer.
However, despite being heavily linked with a move for the Belgium international, the north London club did not broker a deal for the highly-rated midfielder.
The Leicester man’s current deal is set to expire at the end of this season and it seems the midfielder has opted not to extend his contract.
Previously it was reported that despite agreeing on personal terms with Tielemans, Arsenal didn’t intensify their efforts to sign the Belgian last summer due to the fact that Leicester’s £32m price tag for their star man – who will be a free agent in a few months – was considered to be too high by the Gunners’ hierarchy.
The report also said that the Emirates outfit are ready to wait until next summer when Tielemans will become available for free before making a move.
Youri Tielemans to Arsenal
Now, speaking to GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tielemans has always been ‘appreciated’ by Arsenal and his name is on Arteta’s wishlist to strengthen the middle of the park in January.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal held talks with Leicester during the final few days of the summer window over a potential deal to sign the 25-year-old before switching their focus onto Aston Villa ace Douglas Luiz. Romano also says that the north London club could once again revive their interest in signing Tielemans next month and this deal is something that needs to be kept an eye on this winter.
Fabrizio Romano said:
“Tielemans has always been on the list at Arsenal, he has always been appreciated. They always had his name on their list. At the moment, there are no conversations with Leicester, but I think this is one to watch because, in the summer, Arsenal arrived in the final days to try to approach Leicester for Tielemans, then they did the same with Aston Villa for Douglas Luiz.”
A recent report has stated that Leicester are prepared to lower their asking price and accept a fee of around £17m to sell Tielemans this January in fear of losing him for free next summer. The reported price seems quite reasonable for a player of his calibre.
Strengthening the midfield department would be a wise decision by the club’s hierarchy this January in order to help Arteta in pushing for the title after the new year along with achieving success in the other competitions. Tielemans would be a great signing and he would certainly strengthen the engine room if he were to join Arsenal this winter.

Please, for the love of God, take Tielemans off our hands. Grossly overated player who has the fitness levels of a 20 pint Sunday leaguer.

Adrian Rabiot is a by far a better opinion than Tielemans.
Overrated chap didn’t impress at all in the world cup neither has he in premiership thus far.
