Arsenal have reportedly held talks with Joao Felix’s representatives over a potential move in the upcoming January transfer window, as per the Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness).

The 23-year-old is likely to leave the Spanish capital next month after a disappointing few campaigns, following his big-money move from SL Benfica back in 2019.

Mikel Arteta’s side have recently been credited with an interest in the Portugal international. They are seemingly keen on taking advantage of the youngster’s current situation and signing him up in January.

Sport Witness cites and translates the print version of Corriere dello Sport as saying that Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes has decided to take his client away from the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano this winter and he is currently busy finding a new destination for his client.

The report further claims that Arsenal are ‘in talks’ with the super agent in order to understand the player’s current situation, and they could make a possible move next month. However, the Gunners are set to face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and London rivals Chelsea in getting this deal over the line.

Joao Felix to Arsenal

Joao Felix could be a very good acquisition for Arsenal. The youngster is quick, technically gifted, has an eye for scoring goals and can also create opportunities for his teammates. He can play anywhere across the front line, so would give Arteta options.

The Gunners appear to be wanting to strengthen their flanks in this winter window. And following Gabriel Jesus’ injury, bolstering the centre-forward position has now seemingly been on the agenda for Arteta’s side as well, so Felix would be an ideal signing.

The 23-year-old – valued at around £43.6m by Transfermarkt – still has three and a half years left in his current contract. Hence, Atletico Madrid won’t let the Portuguese leave for cheap next month, having bought him for a club record £108m fee just a few years ago.

Therefore, Arsenal would need to spend big in order to get this deal done next month. However, with Felix keen on moving away from the Spanish capital this January, the Rojiblancos could be forced to accept a lower fee for their star.

So, it will be interesting to see how much the Spanish side will ask to sell Felix this winter and whether Arsenal will be able to secure a deal.
