Arsenal could reportedly make a January swoop for Palmeiras midfielder Danilo, as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 21-year-old emerged as a potential target for Mikel Arteta’s side towards the final few days of the summer transfer window. A report in August even stated that the Gunners tabled a £20m official offer to sign the talented midfielder, however, the Brazilian side didn’t allow the departure of their star man.

It appears the north London club remain interested in signing the South American in January. An earlier report claimed that Palmeiras could now be open to letting Danilo leave in the winter after Abel Ferreira’s side failed to qualify for next year’s Club World Cup.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has said that Arsenal are keen on strengthening their engine room this January and the 21-year-old is ‘definitely’ an option for the Emirates outfit.

The journalist further states that the Gunners’ newly promoted sporting director Edu Gasper has been keeping tabs on Danilo for the past year and the north London club are likely to intensify their interest in signing him this winter.

Danilo to Arsenal

Dean Jones said:

“It definitely is an option, he’s[Danilo] in the position that they’ve been looking for for some time too, in case they do have any more problems in the DM area in the second half of the season. Edu’s had him on his radar for the past year, so it won’t surprise me at all if they do go and try to get that one done now.”

During this World Cup break, Arsenal should lay the groundwork for the potential January signings, with midfield and the wings being the two areas that Arteta is seemingly looking to bolster this winter.

Danilo could be a very good option to strengthen the middle of the park and the South American would fit the profile of signings that the Spanish boss has been doing over the past few years. He’s rated at £21m [€25m] by Transfermarkt so should be within Arsenal’s budget.

The Palmeiras star is young and showing signs of huge potential. However, he needs time to develop and perform at his best in the Premier League. So, the Emirates faithful should be patient and let the youngster flourish before imposing the pressure of expectations if he were to join the club this January.
