Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a January swoop for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze, as per The Sun.

The Gunners are likely to remain busy in the upcoming transfer window and the wing is one of the positions that Mikel Arteta seemingly wants to strengthen.

Midfield was thought to be another department where the Spanish boss wanted to add more options in this winter window but a report emerged in recent times that stated the north London club will make only one signing this January with Arteta keen on bolstering the flanks.

The Sun has now claimed that Chukwueze is on Arsenal’s list to strengthen their wide areas this winter along with Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The report also says that Villarreal could cash in on their star man in January in order to make the most out of the Nigerian’s sale, with the youngster’s current contract set to expire in 18 months.

Samuel Chukwueze to Arsenal

The report further states that Arsenal will face competition to sign Chukwueze this winter as Aston Villa, Everton and Atlético Madrid are all eyeing a move for him, however, the Gunners are in the pole position to get this deal over the line due to the fact that they will be able to offer him European football after the new year and ‘would be able to offer him a higher wage than the Premier League rivals’.

Samuel Chukwueze could be a good signing for Arsenal, given he is a right-winger and he would be able to deputise for Bukayo Saka if the 23-year-old were to join the club.

Managing Saka’s minutes has been one of the problems for Arteta this term due to the lack of options he has at his disposal with new signing Marquinhos still very young and not ready to play regularly and Reiss Nelson has just returned from a long-term injury.

So, adding Chukwueze could address that issue for the Spanish boss’ side. The winger is currently valued at around £20m by Transfermarkt and his current deal is set to expire in 2024. So, he could be a feasible option for Arsenal if they formalise their interest in him.

However, the Nigerian has never been a prolific attacker during his time at Villarreal, registering a solitary assist in 13 La Liga appearances this season. So, he might not be the best possible option to strengthen the wings this January.
