William Saliba and Thomas Partey produced magnificent performances to help Arsenal to a dominant 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Saliba has cemented himself as a vital part of Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven this season as the French international has formed a rock solid partnership with Gabriel at the heart of Arsenal’s defence.

It’s been the foundation of our sensational start to the season and Saliba has drawn widespread praise from fans and pundits for his mature displays throughout the past few months.

The 21-year-old was at his best once again as he comfortably dealt the Chelsea attack at Stamford Bridge this afternoon. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz didn’t have a sniff as Arsenal eased to a 1-0 win thanks to Gabriel’s second half goal.

Saliba’s numbers from the game are incredible and prove why he was a worthy winner of the Man of the Match award. He completed 3 cleanrances, 1 block, 2 tackles, won 2 of his 3 duels, kept a clean sheet and completed almost 85% of his 49 passes.

It was rightly described as a ‘colossal’ performance but Saliba only just edged out Thomas Partey for the MOTM award as the Ghanaian midfield was also sensational this afternoon.

Partey bossed the Chelsea midfield for the entire 90 minutes, having 75 touches, completed almost 93% of his 52 passes, completed 6 long balls, 2 dribbles and won 5 of his 6 duels.

He also produced 3 clearances, 2 interceptions and won 2 tackles to help Arsenal secure a vital victory that saw us climb back above Manchester City to the top of the Premier League table.

Saliba and Partey are vitally important players for Arsenal and they were both outstanding today, but special mention should also go to Gabriel Jesus as he was also superb. The Brazilian has come under fire for his now 9-game goal drought but today’s performance highlights what else he brings to the Arsenal team.

Jesus worked tirelessly all game, pressed the Chelsea team all over the pitch and set the tone for the rest of the Arsenal player’s. His hold up and link up play was excellent, he created chances for others and was the first line of defence all afternoon.

Arsenal’s win over Chelsea has made it 34 points from our opening 13 games – which is Arsenal’s best start for over 100 years – and it’s hard not to get too excited at the thought of being in a real title race.

Let’s just hope the upcoming interruption for this ridiculous winter World Cup doesn’t derail Arsenal’s progress….
