Arsenal are reportedly still interested in signing Youri Tielemans and the Leicester City midfielder ‘wants’ a move to the Emirates Stadium, as per the transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Gunners entered the summer transfer window with the objective of strengthening their midfield department and the Belgian was initially thought to be their priority target.

However, as the window went on Mikel Arteta focused on adding more options to the other areas of the squad before making a move to bolster the engine room. Arsenal’s interest in the 25-year-old cooled down towards the final few days of the window and instead, they tried a last-ditch attempt to sign Douglas Luiz on deadline day, but couldn’t get that deal over the line before the window slammed shut.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Ben Jacobs has now claimed that Arsenal remain interested in signing Tielemans and they wouldn’t need to ‘worry about’ acquiring the Leicester man in January, given the midfielder is keen on joining the Emirates Stadium.

The journalist further claims that the Gunners have ‘put in a lot of work’ to purchase Tielemans and we should keep a close eye on this deal in the winter window.

Tielemans to Arsenal

Ben Jacobs said:

“It’s an intriguing one because they’ve put in a lot of work for Tielemans. They know that Tielemans wants Arsenal, so this is not the type of transfer where Arsenal have to worry about player buying. If they move for Tielemans, then Tielemans will join Arsenal.

“But it’s all about what Arsenal want, what’s right for their chemistry and dynamic mid-season, if we’re talking about January. Their interest has never gone away. It’s one to watch because he’s in good form now for Leicester and he’s a goalscorer.”

Youri Tielemans is valued at around £41m by Transfermarkt and his current deal, with the Foxes, is set to expire at the end of this season. So, he could be available for a cut-price deal in January or for free next summer due to the fact that the 25-year-old seemingly doesn’t fancy prolonging his future at the King Power Stadium beyond this season.

A previous report claimed that the Belgian would be available for less than £20m in January and signing a player of the Leicester man’s quality for that kind of price would be an absolute bargain.

Mikel Arteta’s side need a new midfielder, given they lack options in that department, and signing one during the winter window would be a shrewd decision. So, they shouldn’t wait until the next summer to sign Tielemans for free but rather broker a deal for him in January to help the Spanish boss in mounting a title charge in the second half of the season.
