Paul Merson makes prediction about Arsenal’s top-four aspiration
Ex-Arsenal forward Paul Merson believes his former club can finish in the top four spots this season in the Premier League.
The Gunners have enjoyed a brilliant start to this season as they won the first five games on the trot before facing their first defeat last Sunday against Manchester United. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently sitting at the top of the table, one point ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
Writing on SportsKeeda, Merson has stated that although it is very early to say who will finish in the top four spot this season, Arsenal are one of the contenders to achieve that goal along with City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
The former forward also said that the Gunners are doing well at the moment and they can challenge for big prizes going forward.
Merson said:
“It’s still early doors, but I think the Premier League top-four this season will be Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in whatever order. Arsenal are good and I believe they are in there for the long run.”
Arsenal to finish top four
The way Arsenal have started this campaign they are definitely one of the contenders to finish in the top four positions. They also should mount a challenge to win one of the cup competitions this season.
However, I think the only obstacle for them to achieve that goal is their squad depth. They are already struggling with a few injury issues early in this season. Mohamed Elneny, Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe are all sidelined due to injury problems, which has left them light in midfield.
Otherwise, the way Arsenal are playing at the moment they can be optimistic about finishing in the Champions League spots. The poor form of Liverpool and Chelsea could see Arsenal aim even higher than fourth.
So, it will be interesting to see how Arsenal’s season pans out this term. If they can keep hold of their excellent form and showcase consistency this season then Arteta’s side will definitely enjoy a successful campaign.
