Arsenal will reportedly make a move for Palmeiras midfielder Danilo next year as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Gunners were seemingly keen on adding more firepower to their midfield department throughout the recently concluded transfer window, however, despite being linked with a host of players, they failed to secure a deal for any of them before the deadline.

Palmeiras’ youngster Danilo emerged as a potential target for the north London club and as per Goal Brasil, Mikel Arteta’s side made a £20m bid to sign the midfielder before the deadline. However, the Brazilian club stood firm in their valuation as they made it clear that they will only allow the departure of their star man if anyone can pay the 21-year-old’s release clause of €100m (£85m).

Earlier the Independent reported that Arsenal are still in contact with the Brazilian side regarding a potential January move for Danilo.

Meanwhile, speaking on GiveMeSport, Dean Jones has claimed that the Gunners are expected to maintain their interest in the South American star, given the 21-year-old was one of the top midfield targets for Mikel Arteta’s side during the summer transfer window.

The journalist further claims that Arsenal were keen to sign the youngster in the summer but failed to agree on terms with Palmeiras. The Emirates club now believe that they will ‘lead the way’ for Danilo next year.

Danilo to Arsenal

Jones said:

“I think we can expect Arsenal to maintain their interest in Danilo, who they had set as a top tier target heading into the summer window. There was a temptation to try for him because of their situation but he’s a young player in Brazil and they are content that they will lead the way for him next year anyway.”

After failing to add more options to their midfield department this summer, Arsenal have now left with only Albert Sambi Lokonga and Granit Xhaka as their options following the injuries to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey.

So, signing a new midfielder in January has appeared to be an absolute necessity for Arteta’s side. Partey has shown over the past few campaigns that he struggles to stay fit for the entirety of a season.

Therefore, Arsenal must reignite their interest in signing a new midfielder in January. However, Danilo is expected to be a very expensive deal for the north London club, so, either Youri Tielemans or Douglas Luiz would be better options for the Gunners.

They both were linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window and due to the fact that their current deal with their respective clubs will expire at the end of this season, the Premier League duo would be feasible January targets for Arsenal.
