Danilo

Arsenal have reportedly made a £20m bid to sign Palmeiras midfielder Danilo, as per the report in Goal Brasil.

The Gunners are seemingly exploring the possibility of signing a new midfielder before tomorrow’s transfer deadline. Youri Tielemans, Sandro Tonali, Moises Caicedo and Arthur Melo have all been mentioned as potential targets for the north London club, while the Brazilian talent is the new addition to that list.

The 21-year-old joined the Serie A side back in 2018 and came through the youth setup before making his senior debut back in 2020. The midfielder has established himself as a regular starter at the Allianz Parque in recent times, scoring a solitary goal and assisting as many times in 21 league appearances this season.

As per the Goal, Arsenal tabled a £20m bid to purchase Danilo from Palmeiras on Tuesday. However, the Brazilian side are expected to turn that offer down as the Serie A club do not want to sell their youngster this summer and would only allow the midfielder to leave the club if anyone can pay his release clause of €100m (£85m).

Danilo to Arsenal

Arsenal’s technical director Edu Gasper has done a great job in finding Brazilian talent and bringing them straight into the first-team squad. Gabriel Martinelli is a prime examples of that, as he’s established himself as a key member of Mikel Arteta’s first team.

Therefore, the north Londoners will be hoping that Danilo would also be able to prove his worth in the Premier League if he were to join the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The 21-year-old likes to play as the deep-lying midfielder and therefore, he would be a great acquisition for Arsenal. They don’t have many backup options for Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny to play in that role as Granit Xhaka is enjoying a great spell in the more advanced midfield position.

Therefore, signing Danilo could be a very good addition to Arteta’s squad, however, the mentioned £85m fee is outrageous for a player who is yet to prove his worth at the highest level. So, it will be interesting to see whether the Gunners can persuade Palmeiras into selling the youngster on their terms.
