Confirmed line-ups: Crystal Palace vs Arsenal – trio make debuts
Arsenal begin the new season tonight with a tough trip across London to take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
There is no surprise who starts in goal as Aaron Ramsdale continues between the sticks having taken the No.1 shirt. He’ll be looking to start the new campaign with a clean sheet following a disappointing end to last season.
William Saliba is handed his competitive debut for Arsenal tonight. The Frenchman has developed his skills while on loan at Marseille last year so now it’s time for him to stake his claim at Arsenal.
Saliba partners Gabriel in central defence with Ben White starting at right-back in the absence of Takehiro Tomiyasu – who’s not fully fit yet following injury issues.
Oleksandr Zinchenko makes his debut at left-back ahead of Kieran Tierney and the Ukrainian international has impressed in pre-season since arriving from Manchester City last month.
Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka line-up alongside each other in midfield with Martin Odegaard starting in a more advanced midfield role. He’ll captain Arsenal tonight after being given the armband by Arteta.
Gabriel Jesus leads the line up front as he makes his debut following his move from City this summer. The Brazilian has bagged 7 goals in 5 pre-season games so hopefully he continues that kind of form tonight.
Bukayo Saka will be looking to start the season well as he lines-up on the right wing with Gabriel Martinelli given the nod on the left.
Emile Smith Rowe isn’t risked yet as he’s still working his way back to fitness but Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah are among the Arsenal substitutes.
Here are the line-ups:
Arsenal
Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Xhaka; Odegaard, Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.
