Arsenal kick-off the 2022/23 Premier League season with a tough trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace on Friday night.

The Gunners suffered heartbreak during the closing stages of last season as two defeats from their last three matches opened the door for Tottenham Hotspur to snatch fourth place. Arsenal had looked in pole position to secure that all-important final Champions League qualification spot but fell short at the final hurdle.

Mikel Arteta’s side have qualified for the Europa League and many online casino sites have Arsenal priced as one of the pre-season favourites to go all the way in the competition. The Gunners are already in the group stages so they’ll hope for a good draw so Arteta can give some of his squad players some game-time.

However, Arsenal’s focus is firmly on the Premier League as they prepare for a short trip across London to Selhurst Park on Friday evening. Patrick Vieira’s side ran out surprise 3-0 winners in this fixture last season so Arteta will be out for revenge.

The Gunners have enjoyed an excellent pre-season having won all five of their first team fixtures, including an impressive 4-0 win over Chelsea and a 6-0 hammering of Sevilla in the Emirates Cup last weekend. Therefore, they should go into Friday’s game in confident mood.

Betting odds

With no top flight football available for the last couple of months, football fans have been playing online slots usa and gambling on the roulette tables this summer. However, football is back so there is sure to be plenty of interest in this game within the betting markets.

Arsenal are the 5/6 favourites with the betting sites to win this game. Crystal Palace are priced at 17/5, which many may feel generous considering the result in this game last season. The draw can be backed at 27/10.

Eddie Nketiah is the shock favourite to open the scoring at odds of 9/2. The youngster is likely to start on the bench with Gabriel Jesus leading the line so the Brazilian looks good value at 5/1 to break the deadlock.

Arsenal will be desperate to start the season on a positive note after their disastrous opening last campaign, and a 2-0 away win looks a solid bet at 15/2.

Team news

Jesus is set to make his competitive debut for Arsenal following his move from Manchester City this summer. The Brazilian international has settled well at the Emirates having scored 7 goals in 5 pre-season appearances, so he should be raring to go on Friday.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is also set to make his bow at having also arrived from City. Kieran Tierney is still working his way back to full fitness so the Ukrainian international should line-up at left-back.

Summer signing Fabio Vieira isn’t available due to a foot injury while Emile Smith Rowe has also been ruled out so Arteta will be without at least three important players for the trip to Selhurst.

Bukayo Saka should start for the Gunners in attack while Gabriel Martinelli is also expected to feature having impressed in pre-season. Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka are likely to start in midfield with new captain Martin Odegaard leading the side out.

William Saliba could make his competitive debut for Arsenal having returned from a successful loan spell at Marseille. The Frenchman could partner Gabriel in central defence with Ben White at right-back in the absence of Takehiro Tomiyasu – who’s still not fully fit from a calf issue.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-2 Arsenal
