According to Ben Jacobs, Arsenal are expected to table an opening offer for Leicester City’s £30m-rated midfielder Youri Tielemans and a move is ‘very possible’ this summer.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly in the market for a central midfielder during the closing weeks of the summer transfer window as the boss wants to add competition for the likes of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.

Tielemans has been strongly linked with Arsenal and CBS Sports journalist Jacobs claimed recently that the Belgian was ‘sold’ on a move to the Emirates Stadium, despite interest from Man Utd. Jacobs suggested that personal terms have already been agreed in principal between Arsenal and the player, so Tielemans is just waiting for a fee to be agreed with Leicester.

We’ve been biding our time with the club reportedly focussed on outgoings before formalising our interest in the midfielder. However, with Bernd Leno, Nuno Tavares and Folarin Balogun already through the exit door, and Lucas Torreira expected to follow soon, it appears Arsenal are now primed to formalise their pursuit of Tielemans.

Move possible

Jacobs claims that Leicester are expecting a formal offer ‘soon’ and a move to Arsenal is ‘very possible’. The CBS Sports reporter says the Foxes want £30m and Tielemans is keen for his future to be resolved quickly.

United are still interested but it looks like we remain the front-runners for his signature, and I think we’ll make a strong play to sign Tielemans over the next couple of weeks.

The 25-year-old would be a terrific signing if we could land him for anywhere in the region of £30m – although I suspect Arsenal are hoping to drive that valuation down considering the player has one year left on his deal. Tielemans has made it clear he wont sign an extension so Leicester need to cash-in or lose him for nothing in 12 months time.

We’ll have to see how things develop over the next few days/weeks but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tielemans become Arsenal’s sixth major signing of the summer. We’ve already brought in goalkeeper Matt Turner, midfielder Fabio Vieira, winger Marquinhos, striker Gabriel Jesus and left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Tielemans would be another great addition to the squad.
