Mikel Arteta is building a top quality young squad at Arsenal
Mikel Arteta’s plan is clear for all to see and the Spaniard is building a top class, young, hungry squad at Arsenal that could be title challengers in the not to distant future.
Under Arsene Wenger, Arsenal were always competing for the Premier League title and spent 20 years in the Champions League. Since the Frenchman’s departure in 2018, Arsenal have fallen away and are now not just outsiders for the title, but struggle to even qualify for the Champions League.
It’s been five years since the Gunners last competed in Europe’s elite competition and they haven’t lifted the Premier League title since way back in 2004 – a year which saw the club go the entire season unbeaten. It was almost unthinkable back then that 18 years would go by without another title.
However, Arsenal are finally heading in the right direction again and narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last season. Tottenham edged out the Gunners by just 2 points after a poor end to the campaign for Arteta’s side.
The Spaniard is clearly building a young squad that can develop together over the next few years with the aim of not only getting back in the Champions League, but competing for the title again.
Still outsiders
Despite the progress being made, and several top signings arriving this summer, Arsenal are still priced by the likes of http://new-casino-online.com/ as 66/1 outsiders for the 2022/23 title. Perhaps surprisingly, Tottenham – who only finished 2 points ahead of Arsenal last season – are priced at 14/1.
Arsenal have signed a world class striker in Gabriel Jesus this summer and are expected to bring in at least two more quality players before the start of the season, so 66/1 seems like huge odds for a big club like the Gunners.
That’s not to say we expect Arsenal to win the Premier League this season, but they are obviously on the right path to being competitive again and those 66/1 odds are surely going to drop over the coming months.
If the Gunners continue to progress under Arteta over the next couple of years, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them back among the pre-season favourites for the title by the 2024/25 campaign.
With young stars such as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe only going to get better, the future is bright at the Emirates Stadium and it should only be a matter of time before they’re lifting trophies again.
