Arsenal quartet Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka have all been called-up to the senior England squad.

Gareth Southgate’s side take on Switzerland and Ivory Coast during the upcoming international break and Arsenal will have a heavy present at St George’s Park.

Ramsdale is one of three goalkeepers selected in the squad and the Arsenal shot-stopper certainly deserves the No.1 shirt for England. Although he’ll be disappointed with his part in Liverpool’s two goals at the Emirates on Wednesday night, Ramsdale has been outstanding for much of the season since ousting Bernd Leno.

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper has been much better than Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope this season so you’d like to think Ramsdale will see some action for England during the break.

White is also rewarded for his excellent form this campaign. The centre-back has been superb for Arsenal alongside Gabriel this season and deserves to get a start for his country against Switzerland or the Ivory Coast.

There is no surprise to see Saka in the squad as he’s been excellent for Arsenal this season and was a key part of Southgate’s Euro 2021 squad last summer. Hopefully Saka will get the opportunity to shine for England and put that painful penalty miss behind him.

It’s terrific to see Smith Rowe also given a call-up by Southgate. The attacking midfielder has been hampered by injury and illness in recent weeks and hasn’t been a regular starter at Arsenal the past couple of months.

So it’s perhaps a little surprising that Southgate has called him up ahead of someone like Jadon Sancho – who’s been one of Man Utd’s best players lately. However, hopefully Emile takes his opportunity to impress the England coaches during the break.
