Arsenal submit £58.2m bid to sign Alexander Isak
According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal have submitted a formal £58.2m [€70m] offer for Alexander Isak as Mikel Arteta looks to try and finally bring in a new striker on deadline day.
The boss has been trying to strengthen his squad throughout the January transfer window but has so far been frustrated with his attempts to bring in a central midfielder or striker – two areas we desperately need to strengthen.
A new hitman is a particular priority as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks set for a move to Barcelona today which would leave only Alexander Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as Arsenal’s striking options for the second half of the season.
That’s certainly not ideal for a club who’re chasing Champions League qualification so Arsenal have been in the market for a new striker but missed out on top target Dusan Vlahovic to Juventus last week.
Isak has emerged as a viable alternative target with widespread reports claiming that Arsenal are showing a keen interest in the Real Sociedad striker. It looks like we’ve now formalised that interest as Mundo Deportivo claims that Arsenal have put forward an offer worth £58.2m [€70m] for Isak.
The Spanish outlet says Sociedad are determined to hold out for the full value of the 22-year-old’s £75m [€90m] release clause and suggest that Arsenal have the money available if we want to trigger it.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will go back in and meet Isak’s release fee but the Swedish international would be an exciting signing if we were to pull off a late deadline day swoop.
The youngster is one of the most highly-rated young attackers in Spanish football and would be a terrific addition to Arteta’s young squad. The player was spotted in London over the weekend, fuelling speculation he was moving to Arsenal.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming hours but time is running out for Arsenal to bring in that striker we desperately need. Let’s hope Edu manages to do something…..
