Boss confirms move after Arsenal agree deal to sign 27-year-old star

By on January 28, 2022

According to several sources, Arsenal have agreed a deal with New England Revolution to sign USA goalkeeper Matt Turner in the summer.

The Express journalist Ryan Taylor claims Arsenal have agreed to pay the MLS outfit £5m up front with a further £2.5m in add-ons while a 10% sell-on clause has also been included as part of the deal.

Taylor says Turner has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal but he won’t be heading to the Emirates Stadium until the end of the season so he’ll remain with New England Revolution until the summer.

Turner is one of the best keepers in the MLS and was voted as the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021 while he’s also a regular with the United States national team.

In fact, the US manager Gregg Berhalter confirmed Turner’s imminent move to Arsenal following their win over El Salvador on Thursday night, which saw the player keep a clean sheet. Berhalter is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying:

“Well first of all, I think it is just a great story and I hope the public is aware of this ascent of Matt Turner – because it is an incredible story,”

“He went to Fairfield College, undrafted out of college, and now he’s playing with the national team and he’s headed to Arsenal.

“It’s an amazing story and it’s all down to him, his work ethic, his belief in himself and his never-give-up attitude.

“It’s a great story and Matt is a great guy, a great teammate and we are lucky to have him.

“Tonight was an example where he did everything he had to do. He was calm in all situations. He wasn’t tested much but he was there when we needed him and he looked like a player that’s going to Arsenal, for sure.”

Turner will provide competition to Aaron Ramsdale and the 27-year-old is expected to be a direct replacement for Bernd Leno – who’s set to leave Arsenal at the end of the season after losing the first team shirt.

The US keeper is set to become Arsenal’s first signing of the January window but let’s hope he’s not the last as we desperately need to bring in a couple of outfield players before the end of the month.

Arsenal has no problem with goal keeping and I wonder instead of solving striking and midfield, they’re not serious

Misplaced priority by a myopic board,is goal keeping an urgent area in Arsenal that needs immediate attention?we lack a prolific top 9 upfront and an established midfielder, non of these are being addressed. This is club that likes to prank the emotions of their teaming fan population.

This Arsenal is killing me these days bcz every time we register a loss I am not myself when flashbacks of our legends, Henry, Viera etc come into my mind I almost faint. Why signing a goalkeeper? Unless this goalkeeper will be praying as a striker or midfielder, well and good but otherwise it shows lack of seriousness
