Arsenal in negotiations over late move to sign £40m-rated Ruben Neves

By on January 27, 2022

According to Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal are in negotiations over a late move to sign Wolves star Ruben Neves as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad before the end of the month.

The boss has been very clear with his desire to bring in fresh faces during the January transfer window and a new central midfielder is a priority as Arsenal’s lack of depth in that area has been badly exposed in recent weeks.

The club have been strongly linked with a move for Arthur but it appears we’re struggling to agree terms with Juventus over a potential loan deal with the Italian giants demanding an 18-month agreement.

With time running out, it looks like Arsenal may have moved on to another target as Corriere dello Sport claims the Gunners are in negotiations over a possible deal to sign Portuguese international midfielder Neves this month.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to the Emirates several times in recent years so it comes as no surprise to hear we’re back in for him, but it remains to be seen whether a deal can be done at this late stage in the window.

Neves has been a key player for Wolves since arriving from Porto in 2017 so they will reportedly want at least £40m for his signature, which could be an issue for Arsenal with Arteta also desperate to land a marquee striker this year.

Xhaka out?

However, we may be able to raise some sizeable funds to help pay for the Neves deal as Corriere dello Sport says Roma are eyeing a late attempt to finally land Granit Xhaka.

The Serie A outfit went close to signing the Swiss international back in the summer and the report says Jose Mourinho wants to make another play at luring Xhaka to Italy before the end of the month.

I’m not Xhaka’s biggest fan so if we could offload him to Roma and use the money to buy Neves, I think it would be excellent business from Arsenal.

Let see how things go but we’ll have to act fast if we want to get any deals done before the window closes on the 31st….
